‘Pottery Resist Decorating’ Ceramic Workshop

$150.00 $320.00

Get ready to dive back into pottery with a fresh twist!

This beginner-friendly workshop welcomes both new and returning students. If you’ve joined Amanda from Everyday Clay before, you’ll uncover new techniques to take your creative journey further, if you’re a complete beginner, get ready to experience the joy of pottery!

In these sessions you’ll not only learn the basics of hand building but will explore the beautiful craft of resist decoration – an ancient method found in cultures across Europe, Asia, and Africa for creating intricate patterns and layered designs on clay.
– Develop your confidence and skills in creating pottery without the need for a wheel.
– Learn the ancient art of resist decoration and how wax and paper resist techniques can be combined with ceramic painting to produce intricate, modern, and one-of-a-kind decorations on pottery.
– Cultivate an appreciation for handmade ceramics while experimenting with materials and design choices in ways that balance both form and function.

Please note this is a two-part workshop with sessions held a fortnight apart, to allow time for creating your pieces in the first session and returning to decorate them in the second.
The price is all inclusive of both of these sessions, all materials and several kiln firings of your pieces.

Workshop Session 1: A relaxed session of hand-building, where you’ll be able to create up to three pieces of your choice to bring into Session 2 for decorating. This is the perfect opportunity to try something new or build on your developing hand-building skills, with support and guidance provided as much as needed. At the end of this session, your pieces will be taken back to Amanda’s studio to be fired in her kiln in preparation for Session 2.

Workshop Session 2: Explore wax and paper resist methods using ceramic paints to add layers of visual interest, colour contrast, and delicately collaged designs to your handmade pieces. Each decorated piece will be finished in your choice of clear glossy or clear translucent satin glaze to bring them to life. Your work will be fired a second time after Session 2 to transform them into fully functional pottery that can be used for eating and drinking.

Your completed pieces will be ready for collection from Whimsical Creatives in approximately 2-3 weeks after the workshop.

Dates & Times:
Session 1 – Saturday 16th May  10.00am until 1.00pm  AND

What to Bring:

  • You might like to bring an apron or wear an old shirt to keep your clothes clean, although any clay marks on skin and clothing will easily wash off with water.
  • Please also ensure that your nails are trimmed for Session 1, as long nails often get in the way of good clay play.
  • Notebook/Pen/Pencil if you would like to take notes.

If you would like to book a position for this class, you can do so online (preferred, so we all have a copy of the transaction) or call Dani on 0412 662 179. Once you have booked in, you will receive a manual ‘Confirmation of Booking’ email approximately a week before the workshop which will include a booking reminder plus all the information you need for this workshop (you may need to check your spam or promotions folder as sometimes they end up in there!).
