Sitting with Kenzi last night after a busy week in the studio/shop, I was reflecting on how hard small business ownership is but also how my Whimsical community really does make it worthwhile.When I started this business almost 19 years ago, I never anticipated the community side of things and honestly, it’s been one of the best things to come out of this business.This weekend, one of my long time customers/students came up to pay for her things and asked if she could ‘please add a $100’ to another student. She went on to tell me that the studio had saved her when she was going through a particularly tough time in her life and now that she could, she wanted to pay it forward.I won’t go into any more details due to privacy reasons but this generous act of kindness will stick with me for a long time to come due to the nature of it. I’m not even sure if these two students/customers have met before.This is such a huge reason of why I do what I do. A little bit of kindness goes such a long way. We are so excited to welcome Clare from @togandpini to our team next semester!Like all our tutors, Clare has been employed not only for her incredible artistic talent, but also because we feel she is a great fit with our business philosophy and ethics. Living in the leafy suburb of Research in Melbourne, Clare creates her art from a small, cozy studio which she shares with her guinea pigs, her loyal dog Fred and occasional chicken visits.Clare’s love of animals is at the heart of her work, which features charming, hand-painted watercolours of furry and feathered creatures. These delicate artworks are then transformed into a variety of beautiful, handcrafted products including greeting cards, prints, jewellery, and textiles.
Her designs capture the playful and whimsical side of nature, all with a quirky sense of humour. Whether it’s a colourful bird perched on a branch or a regal rabbit in a lavish setting, Clare’s art brings warmth and joy to everyday life.
